I just hung up the phone.
A ten minute phone call.
You never know what will happen when that phone rings…
This person called the church and asked to speak with me because, and I here I will just quote the caller:
“Some friend of mine (I can’t remember who) told me that if I had problems in my life or questions about God that I should call you.”
This caller did have problems and questions.
This caller proceeded to tell me about sin and its painful consequences. “I guess that is why I am calling you. I can’t handle all of this anymore.”
“That’s all right. You can’t handle it. Neither could I. We need God,” I shared. “Let me ask you another question – ‘What do you do to deal with all of these consequences’?”
Answer: “Ask God to forgive me.”
Me: “That’s good. But Who is God? And how do you know he hears you? And if He does then how do you know He would forgive you?”
The caller did not know what to say.
So it was my joy to share the gospel with this caller.
Who God is – Revelation 4:11
What sin is – Romans 3:23
Who Jesus is and what He has done about sin – 1 Peter 3:18 and 1 Peter 1:3
What it means to believe in Jesus – John 3:36
I just took five or six minutes and walked through it. I shared some ideas for contacts and follow up. We will see where it goes.
I love the gospel.
I don’t love pain and heartache – but I do love it when the pain of sin’s consequences leads to true repentance.
I hope that it does in the case of this caller.
