“David’s life was a torrent of spiritual desire and his Psalms ring with the cry of the seeker and the glad shout of the finder.”
Here are some Psalms to meditate on. They are followed by prayers arising from them.
Psalm 40:8, 12-13
I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.
Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O Lord; Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me. For innumerable evils have surrounded me; My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up; They are more than the hairs of my head; Therefore my heart fails me. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me!
God, would You do something to my will? Make my will delight to do your will.
My heart fails me, Lord, but You never fail. Deliver me from me. Deliver me to You.
Psalm 62:5-8
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense;
I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
God, You alone are the One I wait for. Every good thing I expect can come only from You. All my glory and hope and strength are in You, O God.
Psalm 86:10-12
You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.
Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore.
My heart is unstable. My heart is deceived and deceptive. My heart subdivides itself in order to escape the light. Move in, God. Clean it up. Tear down all the walls. Give me singleness of heart.
Psalm 29:1-2
Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
God, I would never know what beauty is if You do not show me. Show me Yourself.
