Sunday Nights
Started the Old Testament Survey course last Sunday evening. We covered Psalms, Proverbs and Song of Solomon.
Our discussion ranged from kinds of poetry, to how do you pray for a whole hour, to psychological counseling vs. biblical counseling, to the question do contemporary nations who are cursing Israel in the United Nations have anything to do with the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. I love the discussions we get into in our Firm Foundations classes!
True Elders in Training
We currently have a couple of men who elders in training. They come to our meetings and work with us in order to ascertain if they (and we) feel that they are called and gifted for service in the role of elder. One of our elders in training is Guy. He blew me away in our recent meeting. He reacted to news of a brother caught up in sin with biblical wisdom, fatherly compassion, and a true shepherd’s heart. The other of our elders in training is Dave. He blessed me immensely by showing me a verse the other day. He showed me Acts 9:31 “Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.” Dave proceeded to walk me through the verse and talk about how we need to see each of those elements in the life of RBC in order to ensure a multiplying ministry. I love his biblical insights into true church growth.
One Prayer
I am indebted to Robert Murray M’Cheyene. He gave me one sentiment (quoted in the sermon last Sunday) where I felt the Spirit really press into my own heart the urgency of what He wants for the church.
The walls of my chamber can bear witness how often the silent watches of the night have been filled up with entreaties to the Lord for you all. I will never rest, nor give God rest, till He make you holy.
