So you want to live the Christian life. You want to be strong in the grace of Jesus Christ.
You know what might stop you?
You know what one of your worst enemies is?
We could say … iniquity or the passing pleasures of lust.
We could list isms … postmodernism, relativism, or subjectivism.
But would you believe me if I told you it is forgetfulness?
The great foe of faith is forgetfulness!
In the pivotal chapter of Deuteronomy 6 God gives His people a clear warning. “After God brings you into your land … beware lest you forget the Lord your God.” God goes on to remind them — both of Who He is to them and what He has done for them.
This is the principle behind the ceremony with the stones in the river Jordan in Joshua 4.
And this is why our Lord wants us to chew on bread and drink from a cup. “This do in remembrance of Me.”
God is mindful of our minds.
God has full knowledge of our frames.
God always remembers that we always forget.
So God calls us to remember.
And He helps us to remember.
“Lord, help me to remember today the things you taught me yesterday.”
“Lord, as I face trials tomorrow help me to remember how you brought me through them yesterday.”
“Lord, help me never to forget the blood of Jesus was spilt for me.”
