I had a great time at church yesterday.
Darien had the pulpit in the morning. (D – Thanks for speaking with power and clarity about our commitment to holiness in this church)
Bob had the membership class in the evening. (I love sharing the teaching in that class with our elders. Thanks for your faithfulness Bob)
These developments left me free to wander around and have some fun.
I sat in the first service with the family. But second service I was able to hang out with the children and the folks who teach and serve them.
A few highlights:
- Goldfish crackers
- Unscrambling the word HAITF on the whiteboard
- Being told by a very serious five year old girl, “Hey, you can’t cut in our line!”
- Watching one toddler (a chunky boy) try to share a book with another toddler (a tiny girl). This was a wonderful display of sharing. The type of thing to be celebrated in the church nursery. Only trouble… He handed it to her kind of quickly, on an upward angle and the spine of the book connected sharply with her small forehead.
- Asking one little guy, “What color should we use on Peter?” He answered, as if it were the most obvious of choices, “Purple stripes.”
- Hearing the kids learn this verse: “No one can serve two masters.”
