Last night I attended a debate at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. The question was ‘Is social justice essential to the mission of the church?’ Jim Wallis argued yes and Albert Mohler argued no. It was a very interesting contrast in styles. Wallis spent almost all of his time telling very good stories about his personal interaction with Desmond Tutu, occupy Wall Street, various activists and political leaders. Mohler spent all of his time defining and the addressing the issues in a direclty biblical and theological manner.
This week I talked with one of our members who recently invited the checker are the Piggly Wiggly to church. Apparently the checker had been thinking about going to church someplace and was delighted that someone invited her. Who can you invite this week?
Dan Miller is taking about a dozen high school students up to Fort Wilderness this weekend for project serve. Pray for them. While you are at it, pray for all of our students in the middle and high school ministries and the youth ministry leaders. I love and appreciate them so much. I find myself praying for them often. I hope you do too.
Tonight and tomorrow we will be at the RBC marriage retreat in Lake Geneva. Please be praying for real spiritual growth in everyone who attends. We need to understand and believe the gospel so that we can then view our marriages as an extension of the love which radiates between Jesus Christ and His bride.
