We just returned from attending a wedding in Grand Rapids.
I hated to miss the Badger evangelism event and missed seeing Brian Phipps.
It was a bummer of a weekend to be away.
But the wedding was that of Les and Miriam Lofquist’s daughter Amy and our time with the Lofquist family is very precious to us.
Les is the Executive Director of the IFCA.
Racine Bible is a member of this fellowship of churches.
Les has a demanding job and God has given him the gifts and talents to do it well.
The New Testament is pretty clear on the fact that everyone needs a mentor.
You can read the Word and pray and listen to preaching and participate in corporate worship. But you still need human relationships, godly mentors, a man or a woman who is a little further down the road than you. Those relationships are all the sweeter when they are full not only of wisdom but also laughter, humility and love.
God showed His love to Amy and me when He brought Les and Miriam into our lives. They are about a decade or two ahead of us in marriage and parenting and ministry. We count on them to show us the way. They do so with godliness, grace, uncompromising truth, and loving humor. It was our joy to attend the wedding. We were happy to stay late and help with the clean up. Praise God for His gift of friends.
