2 Peter 1:3-5 and 10-11
We opened this passage this morning around the breakfast table.
Cereal, English breakfast tea and observation-interpretation-application about the passage.
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control…
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We cleared away some misconceptions about knowledge.
We marked down some specific applications (what would we do differently if we remembered what this text is saying?)
Later in the day I was visiting one of our seniors who has been unable to attend church services for quite some time.
I picked this passage to read in my visit. And, talking to this saint who appears to be right at the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior, I praised God.
I praise Him for granting the knowledge of Himself.
I praised Him for calling us to His own glory and excellence.
I praised Him for the great and precious promises.
I praised Him, in particular, for how the same living Word of Scripture applies to my teenagers at breakfast and to an 80+ year old grandfather in the faith a little later in the day.
