Then the king said to his servants, “Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?”
Jim Schneider passed today.
Jim was 90.
I am not exaggerating when I say that most of the men on the RBC board through the years had been discipled by Jim.
I rely on many third and fourth generation disciples who are active in our work because Jim discipled someone who then discipled someone who is discipling someone right now.
He was a faithful man. He was doggedly committed to sound doctrine. He never – I mean never right up to his last days – let me visit him without drilling me about some point of doctrine to assure himself that I was cutting it straight.
I will miss him.
He is now enjoying Heaven.
Not because of how faithful he was.
Not because he did so much for the church.
Not by any deeds that he has done.
But only because of Christ.
As I sat with Jane at their table today we reflected on this old hymn.
When has sunk yon glaring sun,
When we stand with Christ in glory,
Looking o’er life’s finished story,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
Not till then, how much I owe.
When I stand before your throne,
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see you as you are
Love you with unsinning heart,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know,
Not till then, how much I owe.
