The Spirit spoke to me this morning from Proverbs 12.
Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread,
but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.
The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting,
But diligence is man’s precious possession.
Lord, you lay it out with crystal clarity here.
The lazy man has nothing to roast because he has been so lazy.
But diligence is a precious possession, a truly valuable character trait.
Lord Jesus, you were the model of true diligence when you walked this earth.
Multitudes counted on you and you cared for each one of them.
You were always found doing the labor you needed to do.
You were always working that work which the Father prepared for you.
Lord, would you make me more diligent?
Protect me from laziness, lethargy and the distraction of worthless pursuits.
I pray the same for my family.
My kids are growing up in the online, plugged in generation.
All of this leads to shortened attention spans.
Help me to help them to be diligent about what really matters.
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
but a wise man listens to advice.
Lord, my way is always right in my own eyes.
Stop me from being misled by me!
Open my ears to your Word and to the voices of those around me who would help protect me from me.
I want to listen to you today.
I want to listen to wise, godly counsel this day.
Help me to hear. Pull me out of foolishness today.
