What does it mean to have peace with God?
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1
The phrase, used here in this verse, means that God is at peace with us because his wrath toward us has been removed.
This peace with God is objective not subjective.
It depends on God not on us.
It is a fact whether or not it is a feeling.
Now, to be sure, it is supposed to be something that we feel and enjoy (don’t miss how verse two insists on this). But that is the echo. That is our response. And our response can get jumbled by all sorts of junk in the way.
Feeling peace in our hearts and minds is supposed to follow from our grasp of the gospel. Peace in our hearts is the reflection and realization of the reconciled relationship established by the cross.
How important is it to have peace with God?
More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have received the reconciliation. Romans 5:11
Consider this. If the entire world was at peace with you and God was at war with you what would it matter? But if God is at peace with you and the entire world is at war with you what would it matter?
