These are a few of the prayers I keep on my study desk. Let’s pray like this for each other and our spiritual leaders…
John Wesley’s prayer
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
Thomas Aquinas prayer
Ineffable Creator, pour forth the light your radiance upon the darkness of my mind, and dispel from me the double darkness into which I was born: sin and ignorance.
Grant me keenness of mind to understand, capacity to remember,
subtlety to interpret, and copious grace of expression.
May you guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to completion.
You who are true God and Man, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
Charles Spurgeon’s prayer
Let me be as the bullock which stands between the plough and the altar, to work or to be sacrificed, and let my motto be, ‘ready for either.’
A spiritual leader’s prayer
Father in heaven,
Always grant me character that is greater than my gifts
And humility that is greater than my influence.
