Charles Hodge’s comment on the fiery darts of Ephesians 6:
“It is a common experience of the people of God that at times horrible thoughts, unholy, blasphemous, skeptical and malignant, crowd upon the mind, which cannot be accounted for on anyordinary law of mental action, and which cannot be dislodged. They stick like burning arrows; and fill the soul with agony. They can be quenched only by faith; by calling on Christ for help.”
I have been wondering about this lately.
Are our wicked thoughts themselves the fiery darts?
Does Satan have a hand in flinging them toward us?
Have you ever found that such thought fly into your mind?
They are there, in your mind, when you don’t want them there?
Even while you are reading your Bible or trying to pray?
Especially when you are doing such things, these evil thoughts come to you?
What can we do?
The only way to quench those fiery thoughts is with the shield of faith.
Fill your mind and heart with the Word of God.
If you do, then you will be able to put such fiery thoughts out with God’s thoughts.
