state testing

state testing

I almost showed up to the office today with forty kids!

I was anticipating the look on Scott, Sharon and Linda’s face when I pulled into the parking lot followed by a caravan of a couple dozen cars filled with middle and high school students.

But I didn’t get to see that look. Only almost. Here’s what happened.

At 8:30 this morning I dropped Carly and Rylie off for state testing.

Since their public online school has no brick and mortar they use community centers or churches for the test.

This year we met at the Nazarene church — about forty seventh, eighth and tenth graders.

The teachers had the tests and sharpened number two pencils. But all the doors were locked. Nobody showed up to let us in. We clustered in the parking lot and waited and waited and waited.

I told the teacher that I happened to have keys to a large church down on Spring Street in my pocket. “If these folks don’t show — you all can follow me and I will hook you up with a room for the test.” He was really thankful. He was about to announce this new plan to the assembled parents in the parking lot… and then somebody showed up to open the doors.

Maybe next year!
