This week had a strange start to it for me.
Sunday I had a killer toothache.
I had to schedule a root canal so we made an appointment for Tuesday morning.
I had agreed to speak at the IFCA Wisconsin Regional meeting which convened on Monday and Tuesday. I decided to fulfill my committment to speak, though I could no longer stay overnight and attend the entire meeting.
I headed out there, thinking that it was “just past Madison.”
It was actually like halfway between Madison and New Mexico.
Took me forever to get there!
Once there, I got to see some old friends and have dinner with Georgie Filber.
I was the last speaker in the evening session.
I didn’t get out of there until late.
Made it home around midnight Monday.
Up early Tuesday to see the endodontist.
The root canal was successful. It got a little dicey at the end when he informed me that “this nerve has a wicked ‘s-curve’ underneath it. I have to go back in there deeper to get it all.” Ouch.
I am thankful, very thankful, for the common-grace mercy of Novocain.
I also feel more and more compassion for my brothers in Kabardino-Balkaria and other such places who have inadequate medical and dental care.
Now that I am, finally, back in the regular routine I better start in on the joyous work of studying Ephesians 6:16 so that I can help God’s people take up the shield of faith.
