Sunday reflections

A few highlights from services yesterday…

Congregation really sang out on It is Well with my Soul. The simple, quiet piano accompaniment enabled me to hear the congregational voices loud and strong.

Struck by the powerful indictment of John 1:10-11. Who makes that kind of mistake?! That would be us. We are so very, very lost. Yet God loves us. He seeks and saves us.

I will never get over John 1:16 “For of His fullness, we have all received grace upon grace.”

The limitless supply – of his fullness

The limitless outflow – grace upon grace

It was my joy to share ways that I have seen grace upon grace operating our lives every day this last week. Stories about people reaching out to young men without fathers, college students using their summer to influence the younger generation, two of our men (both in the hospital!) finding ways to reach out to those who are not yet saved, and more besides.

When I walked into my office this morning, someone had left a note with MORE evidences of grace upon grace. God is at work.

Evening congregational meeting was a joy. We reflected on God’s provision in our giving and budgeting. Bob interviewed our oldest active member (Virginia who is 99) and a relatively new member, Dean. We celebrated the Lord’s Table together and reflected (from Romans 12 and Philippians 2) on how Christ’s grace and truth identifies us.
