The Love of God

The Love of God

Comments on Romans 5:1-11

Charles Hodge on Romans 5:8

That God should love the good, the righteous, the pure, the godly, is what we can understand; but that the infinitely Holy should love the unholy and give his Son for their redemption, is the wonder of all wonders.

J.I. Packer on the gracious love of God

God loves creatures who have become unlovely and (one would have thought) unlovable. There was nothing whatever in the objects of His love to call it forth; nothing in man could attract it or prompt it. God loves men because He has chosen to love them.

There is a tremendous relief in knowing that His love to me is utterly realistic, based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery can now disillusion him about me.
