This Summer our High School ministry sent a team of students to Honduras. Hearing their report last Sunday was a joy.
Top Ten Things I Heard in the Honduras Report
We studied Philippians for our trip. It was amazing how perfectly applicable everything we studied in that book of the Bible was for everything we experienced every day on the trip.
My biggest takeaway from the trip was selflessness. My Savior counted others’ salvation more important than His own comfort. I need to live like Him.
Wait. Is this microphone working? It isn’t? What? Are we back in Honduras? Nothing works over there.
We had plans for every day of the trip. They never worked. It is way better to trust God and be flexible.
The thing I kept thinking on the trip was – this earth is not my home. This place is where I live right now but I will spend my eternity in heaven.
I had a rotten attitude one day on the trip. Wouldn’t you know … that was the day after we studied grumbling and complaining from Philippians. I repented. I apologized to my team members for my attitude. God is good.
One day we got to go to Pizza Hut. That was awesome.
We each brought one suitcase. I am pretty sure that I had more in my one suitcase than many of the people there have period. I am discontented way, way too easily.
I need to choose joy over grumbling and thankfulness over complaining.
We think it is about our talents and efforts. But it isn’t. We look for the right circumstances or the perfect situation. But it is no use waiting on that. God is on the throne and He will show His mercy to those He is calling. We just have to step out in faith and obey.
