Spring 2015 Classes
Classes begin March 18, 2015 at 6:30 PM
Every Wednesday evening from Mar 18 to May 6, we will be offering the following classes for adults. There will be nursery care for infants and toddlers, the AWANA program for preschoolers through 5th grade, and youth group for middle and high schoolers.
Follow Me
Teacher: Wayne Beilgard
What does it mean to be a follower of Christ? What happens when God’s grace and glory truly invades a person’s life? That person will never be the same. This class is based upon a book entitled Follow Me by Pastor David Platt. This excerpt from the book helps to explain the purpose for this book and this class:
We will explore this revolution that occurs when a person comes face-to-face with God in the flesh and he says, “Follow me.” We will consider the magnitude of the “me” we are called to follow and marvel at the wonder of his mercy toward us… We will debunk popular Christian slogans and politically correct positions that keep us from truly knowing and passionately proclaiming Christ. In the end, we will find ourselves joined with brothers and sisters around the world accomplishing a grand and global purpose that God set in motion before the world began.
This class comes with a $10 charge to cover the cost of the book.
Biblical Self-Image
Teacher: Darien Bowers
This class is designed to help us cut through the clutter of much of what our culture teaches and answer the question: What does the Bible say about ourselves, and how can we help other people have a proper view of themselves? The Bible is the ultimate textbook on the human person, and we find answers to many questions there, such as: Is my problem low self-esteem? Does the Bible teach that I need to learn to love myself? What should I do with feelings of inadequacy? How should I deal with feelings of guilt? We will examine some of the teachings of modern psychology in light of the Scriptures and gain a clearer understanding of how to view ourselves and our problems.
Fundamentals of the Faith, Part 2
Teacher: John Anderson
All believers benefit from taking the time to work through many of the fundamental doctrines and teachings of the Bible. These “fundamentals of the faith” provide the foundation for understanding much of the rest of the Christian life. This class is Part 2 of the class that began last session and will cover topics such as Prayer, Spiritual Gifts, Obedience, and God’s Will. It is not necessary to have taken Part 1 in order to take Part 2. If you do not yet have a workbook, you can purchase one from the church for $10.
Jonathan Edwards on the Christian Life
Teacher: Spencer DeBurgh
I read a lot of books. But this one topped my list as the best one I read last year. It is a fresh, practical, and surprisingly beautiful study of Christian life and doctrine. In this course I’ll do a little Bible teaching each week and we will discuss the book together. Topics covered will include – the beauty of holiness, the new birth, heaven and hell, gentleness, joy, love, life as pilgrimage, and prayer. If you’d like to see and hear more about the book follow these links.
