What did you do at work today?

What did you do at work today?

(I typed this up yesterday, Tuesday the 14th)

In this space today, I am simply going to answer the question I get when I walk through the front door at my house.

“What did you do at the office today?”

I will try not to refer to this post when Amy asks me this question tonight.

Can you imagine how well that would go?

“How was your day, honey?”

Me: “Don’t ask me. Just read my blog. You know the address. What’s for supper?”

Anyhow, for any of you who might be interested, here is what I did today.

Elder’s meeting from 5:30-7:30 am.

Good time of prayer. Sweet reading from Luke 24. Helpful discussion on staff evaluations. Talked about some future ministry opportunities and if those should be pursued in light of what we are already doing. Sharing about prayer requests and people concerns.

Pastor’s meeting from 9:00-10:30

Talked about baby dedication and a few calendar issues. Discussed 2 Timothy 2:15 and worked through many practical questions such as: What does it mean to be diligent? Where are we tempted away from diligence and toward laziness? What does it mean to be approved unto God? How does the fear of man displace that? Does our teaching prove that we rightly divide the Word? How will we know this? How can we keep each other accountable in these areas?

Answered a bunch of emails and phone calls from church members. Some simple, administrative matters. Some easy to answer requests for information or advice. A few more difficult matters.

Stepped away from the desk a couple of times to pray. Once to pray through a Psalm and once to pray for several people that came to mind.

Spoke with one of our younger, single members who is contemplating a major career change. He wanted my counsel as to where he would be most fruitful for the Lord.

Worked just a bit on interpreting “having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”

Talked on the phone with a man who found our church online and called asking to talk to the pastor. Ends up this fellow is thinking of moving to Racine from Nebraska but does not want to move until he is sure he has a solid church to attend. I don’t know if this brother will end up here. But I love the way his phone call demonstrates the centrality of the church in his life!

Prepared notes on various types of parallelism in Hebrew poetry for Sunday evening Firm Foundations class.

Got ready to step away from the desk, walk to the car, drive home and bring Christ’s love to those in my family.
