What does it mean to pray without ceasing?
EM Bounds “Always does not mean that we neglect the normal duties of life. But it means that the heart is always going out to God in loving communion, and that the moment the mind is released from the task upon which it is engaged it returns naturally to God as the bird does to its nest.”
General Stonewall Jackson described his habits for praying always:
“I have so fixed the habit in my mind that I never raise a glass of water to my lips without asking God’s blessing, never seal a letter without putting a word of prayer under the seal, never take a letter from the post without a brief sending of my thoughts heavenward, never change my classes in the lecture-room without a minute’s petition for the cadets who go out and for those who come in.”
Some practical suggestions on times to pray –
Before pressing send for an email. “Let my relationship and communication with this person… be to your glory”
Before logging on to facebook. “Let me be an encouragement. Protect me from vanity.”
While in line to make purchases. “You gave me this money. I give you thanks. Let me use what is purchased for You.”
Before turning on the television. “I spend this time in Your sight. Let me watch only that which I would watch with You.”
When you touch the doorknob to leave your home. Before turning on the ignition in the car. “You go with me to my destination. Make me Your servant and ambassador while I am there.”
