In Pastor’s meeting this morning we spent an hour in prayer. I don’t know why we don’t just do this every time. It is the best. We prayed following this order:
Personal prayer requests
Praying for key leaders and hurting people in the church family
The hour felt like five minutes. We need to remember that the occupational hazard for pastors is that talking about God makes us think that we have talked with God. Telling others what God is saying to them makes us think that we have heard what God is saying to us. We need to be on our knees consistently and persistently.
Am I the only one who thinks it is crazy that Phyllis and Pat are giving me stuff to look through about music for our services in December? Isn’t it May?
Digging the music from Sojourn. Good sale going right now. Their latest is all lyrics from Isaac Watts. http://www.sojournmusic.com/
The verse that grabbed me today was in Psalm 97:10
You who love the Lord, hate evil.
He preserves the souls of His saints.
Applications from 97:10a You who love the Lord, hate evil.
Do I love the Lord? I know I do but I could and should love Him more. What two steps can I take to love Him more this week?
Do I hate evil. I know I do but I could and should hate it so much more. What two steps can I take to hate evil more this week?
Applications from 97:10b He preserves the souls of His saints.
This is so important.
I love Him but my love is so imperfect, impure and weak.
I hate evil but that hatred is so inconsistent that sometimes I actually prefer it and choose it.
If I counted on my love for God and my hatred for evil to sustain and preserve my soul … my soul would be in a world of trouble. Praise God that He sustains and preserves me by His sovereign grace and steadfast love.
