Some recent highlights…
Our elders spent the day together on Saturday in prayer and planning. The Lord is placing in our hearts an increasing zeal toward local outreach and evangelism.
Sunday evening I taught the marriage mentoring class. What a great gift to have couples who are in training to be mentor couples here at RBC. We had an interesting discussion about agape love and romantic love, along with various feelings/opinions along the spectrum between the two.
My soul was strengthened by the song the Ladd ladies sang on Sunday. The lyric was all about God’s sovereignty (not ours) and God’s glorious freedom (not ours). This emphasis gives deep confidence to God’s people.
On Sunday somebody gave us a gift card to Olive Garden. We proceeded to use it immediately. That soup and salad and breadsticks is a fantastic lunch. The pasta e fagioli soup is my favorite. Actually, the chicken gnocci soup is my favorite. Then again, I have always liked the minestrone best.
A comment on Hebrews 4:12 – “If anyone thinks the air is beaten by an empty sound when the word of God is preached, such a one is greatly mistaken. For this preached word is a living thing full of power which leaves nothing in humanity untouched. Whenever the Lord addresses us by His word, He deals seriously with us, in order that He may touch all our inmost thoughts and feelings; and so there is no part of our soul which ought not to be roused by the penetration of His living Word.” John Calvin
