Yesterday’s sermon was all about the workplace.
This obvious truth hit me (hard) last week.
The reality is that we get a couple of hours together in corporate worship on Sunday.
But how many hours will we be spending at our places of employment between Sundays?
We need to hear what God says to us about our actions and attitudes in the workplace.
Here are some passages I commend for your meditation.
1 Peter 2 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor. Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust. For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.
Colossians 3 Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

As you think on these things here are some questions for observation…
- How is the Lord mentioned in these verses? What is He providing? What is He promising? What is He looking for?
- What actions does this passage command me to do?
- What attitudes does this passage command me to have?
- In my specific work situation what additional actions and attitudes would help make these things a reality in my life?
- What are my biggest temptations to sin in the workplace?
- How can I resist those temptations?
