How to Get Up Early for Morning Prayer

You should pray every morning.

Why is prayer in the morning such a good idea?

The sunrise of every morning is symbolic of a renewal of God’s deeds of love (Lamentations 3:23).

Praying in the morning gives us an outlook for the whole day. The Psalmist put it like this –

Psalm 5:3

NIV In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.

NKJV My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct [it] to You, And I will look up.

After he prayed early in the morning then he watched eagerly all day long. Morning prayer thus fuels our faith throughout the fullness of the day.

So… how to be disciplined to pray in the morning in three simple steps –

  1. Set your alarm. (…But I always do that and I just hit snooze…)
  2. Buy another alarm and set it where you have to actually get out of bed to turn it off.
  3. Place a note above that second alarm and read it when you get out of bed to turn the alarm off. “I can get out of bed to turn off a stupid beeping noise that bugs me. But I can’t get out of bed to spend time with the Savior who died for me? What kind of creep am I?”
